The Lawrence Hargrave Museum.
Hon Stephen Jones MP with the unveiled plaque
During a special event held in 2023 and lead by Master of Ceremony and Society Patron, Michael Hough AM, the Lawrence Hargrave Society formally opened its new museum.
The opening commenced with a Welcome to Country by Aunty Jodie Edwards.
This was followed by an address from Ms Maureen Massey Vice-President HARS.
Sadly Rob Deacon, President of Lawrence Hargrave Society and long term advocate of the museum was in hospital and so the museum curator Bob Black read Rob's speech of welcome and thanks to all who have striven to make this day possible.
Chris Homer, Mayor of Shellharbour Council spoke of the importance of HARS and the new museum to tourism in the local area.
Ms Alison Byrnes, MP, Member for Cunningham provided some additional interesting information on Lawrence Hargrave, (which we will feature later).
Finally and fittingly Michael Adams, author, historian and also a long term advocate of Lawrence Hargrave read an Ode which he penned in 2015. (It is on our web site HERE)
The museum was formally declared open by the Hon Stephen Jones MP, Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services.
The Society is most grateful to all the special guest who made the day memorable.
We should also like to thank the coffee shop staff from HARS who provided an excellent morning tea. (Visitors to HARS can sample their wares in the Connie cafe near the entrance).
We are grateful to the Historic Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) (you can find their web site here) who have made space for us in their premises to display information and models of this remarkable man's work.
We look forward to meeting you soon at Shellharbour Airport, 54 Airport Rd, Albion Park Rail NSW 2527
