DETAILS
This exclusive guided tour (only available through PRE BOOKING ONLINE) will be led by three senior LHS/ HARS member- the Patron (Michael Hough), the President (Rob Deacon) and LHS Committee member (Richard Webb). The tour will then enable you to explore selected artefacts of early Australian aviation heritage, with a special emphasis on the pioneering aviation work of Lawrence Hargrave at Stanwell Park Beach NSW as follows:-

*Morning Tea on arrival, which will include a briefing by the senior members of the Lawrence Hargrave Society as to the pioneer work of Hargraves in developing SIGNIFICANT AVIATION PRINCIPLES, leading to the workable aero foil and the rotary engine.
1030 Approx- 1200 Approx
You will be escorted upstairs and seated in the Aircrew Briefing Room and the LH Centre, which was officially opened in 2024 (see website ref above) and provided with the essential details of Lawrence Hargrave including his pioneering works, and of the significant geographic locations connected with him (e.g. at “ Hilltop House” at Stanwell Park, his kite experiments at Stanwell Park Beach/ Displays at Stanwell Park Beach/ the Bald Hill monument/ Lawrence Hargrave Drive and his Sydney residences.
You will then be allocated to join one of three separate tour groups led by a senior member of the LHS and by these combined events you will be provided with:-
* A guided tour of the LHS Centre- located upstairs in HARS Hangar 2 above “Café Connie” a tour which will include:-
+ AV and working models including a Videoclip of LHS Volunteers re-enacting his famous Box Kites experiments at Stanwell Park beach
+ A collection of Hargraves models and a model of his working rotary engine
+ A collection of paintings depicting and honoring his work
* An inspection of the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame- in which Lawrence Hargrave is the Number 1 inductee
* Access to the restricted HARS heritage archives- which include the de Havilland blueprints- from which aircraft were manufactured in Australia
*The tour will then move to the HARS operational Hangars in which participants will be taken past the extensive HARS historic airframes collection and the tour will then concentrate on inspecting:-
*A full- size replica of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith aircraft – Southern Cross- a Fokker Trimotor- which was rebuilt back to flying condition at HARS
* A flying de Havilland Tiger Moth – built at Bankstown in the 1930’s and the rugged biplane trainer on which all RAAF pilots trained up to the mid 1950’s
Where feasible, you will be shown the interiors of these aircraft including cockpits
Bonus Features
Following the formal LHS Tour, which will conclude n.l.t. 12:30, you are then able to depart at will, after enjoying the remainder of the Tarmac Day (access to which is included in your entry price) viewing the many significant flying and non-flying airframes at HARS
Getting There
HARS is a world class collection of historic aviation planes and artefacts, with the main collection based at Albion Park Rail NSW approx. 1.25 hrs drive South of Sydney.

HARS is easily accessible by car, and also by train- as the Albion Park Rail Railway station is immediately opposite one of the airport runways and HARS is an approx. 5 min walk from the Railway station
This is an EXCLUSIVE tour only offered through pre-booking through the HARS website, and NOT currently available as a ‘walk-up’ to HARS for a guided tour.

PWD are welcome but there is no wheelchair access possible for the two historic airframes inspected as part of this tour
